Inspired by weekend walks along one familiar path on the Wirral, Summer Hedgerow is an original botanical artwork that brings together the flowers, foliage and colours that appear for just a few weeks each year.
Dog rose and creamy honeysuckle weave amongst foxgloves, buttercups, bindweed and the fresh new growth of oak, just as they do along the hedgerows each spring and early summer. Rather than recreating a single flower in isolation, I wanted to capture the feeling of walking amongst them all at once.
Every stem, leaf and petal has been made, painted and assembled by hand at home on the Wirral using individually painted paper. The result is a one-of-a-kind botanical artwork inspired by the hedgerows I return to, season after season.
