A foxglove study, observed in its natural rhythm and set within a painted wooden frame.
This piece follows the vertical movement of the plant as it rises and curves, with blooms opening gradually along the stem. The composition moves beyond the edge of the frame, suggesting continuation — as though only a single section of a larger plant has been brought into focus.
Flowers are held at different stages, from early buds to fully opened forms, allowing the eye to move gently across the piece. The soft peach tones, inspired by the Dalmatian foxglove, are muted and varied, with subtle markings carried through each bloom.
The leaves sit lower and more grounded, forming a base from which the stems lift and gather, creating a quiet sense of upward movement and balance within the frame.
The frame forms part of the work. Painted in String and paired with a matching backing, the frame is gently aged with wax and soft gilded detailing, allowing the surface to hold warmth and depth as the light shifts.
The foxglove is fixed within the depth of the frame, where glass would traditionally sit, allowing the piece to exist between sculpture and wall work.
The frame measures approximately 36 × 43cm.
The overall composition extends to approximately 49 × 45cm, with a depth of around 10cm.
Created as a one-off botanical study, this piece reflects the natural structure and quiet movement of foxglove — something observed, held briefly, and allowed to continue beyond the frame.
